Alex is a seasoned defense attorney who understands that every case is unique, and every client deserves an approach that is tailored to their individual goals. His practice focuses on representing industry leading transportation companies, motor carriers, railroads, interstate trucking companies, and insurers in complex litigation matters brought in both State and Federal Courts.
Alex reliably maintains a reputation with clients as a thoughtful, responsive, results-driven litigator. A reputation earned from his successful defense and guidance to clients on high-exposure claims, his management of rapid response investigations, and his attentive and efficient handling of all lawsuits, big or small.
Alex’s achievements and results for clients include:
- Alex brought a stipulated liability case to trial with Managing Partner John A. Bonventre, which resulted in a favorable verdict for the client. Plaintiff asserted FELA claims arising out of a motor vehicle accident, alleging injury to his neck, back and shoulder, resulting in lumbar fusion surgery, cervical fusion surgery, and arthroscopic shoulder surgery. Ultimately, while, plaintiff sought a substantial seven figure settlement, the jury issued a five figure verdict.
- In a stipulated liability case, with plaintiff alleging the need for arthroscopic surgery and cervical fusion, Alex second chaired a trial as second year associate with lead trial counsel, Diane Ruccia, and assisted in achieving a remarkable complete and total defense verdict. The trial was such an unequivocal victory that no appeal was even attempted.
- Alex has routinely been relied upon by new and longstanding clients to provide an immediate review of ongoing litigation and offer a second opinion, including a review of litigation management, an assessment of litigation risk, and if necessary, to step in to prepare a case for trial.
- In a lawsuit where plaintiff claimed eight-figure damages, Alex successfully dismissed unsubstantiated claims for punitive damages, negligent hiring, training, supervision, and unsubstantiated claims of spoliation of evidence. The dismissal of these claims narrowed the issues for trial and ultimately provided leverage for settlement.
- Alex successfully barred a plaintiff’s attempt to improperly game discovery by waiting for the service of responsive defense experts before attempting improperly to serve numerous additional, previously unnamed, expert witnesses.
- Alex successfully leveraged a Summary Judgment motion, for an out-of-possession landlord client, amidst aggressive settlement negotiations, to achieve a goals-based-victory, as established by the client’s needs.
- When a plaintiff sought to record an independent medical examination without any restrictions, in a manner that would have easily provided an opportunity for plaintiff to manipulate such a recording, Alex successfully obtained a Protective Order requiring numerous measures to ensure that any such recording was properly preserved and not altered.
Prior to joining the firm, Alex graduated from Rutgers School of Law, where he served as Editor on Law Review; and after graduating, he clerked for the Presiding Judge of Hudson County’s Equity Division. And, while Alex grew up in Queens, New York, he is proud to call New Jersey his home, where he lives with his incredible wife, and amazing daughter. (He will – without prompt – proudly show photos of his daughter and dogs).
