Upcoming/Recent Speaking Engagements and Publications April 2012 - Anna A. Kornikova, a former Clerk to Magistrate Judge Roman E. Reyes of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York participated on the panel for the program at the Association of the Bar of the City of New York on "How to Find a Clerkship: A Program for Law Students and Recent Law Graduates." November 2011 – Rebecca Embry co-presented a session to the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants on Responsibilities in Tax Practice with the Risk Control Director for the Accountants Professional Liability Insurance Program of Continental Casualty Company. The presentation discussed how CPAs and their firms can limit risk exposure while fulfilling their professional responsibilities in serving their clients. The presentation focused on malpractice risks and responsibilities under the professional standards. October 2011 – Mark Landman spoke to a national claims conference on the subject of "Counsel's Role in Responding to a Catastrophic Accident." The presentation explained how critical "on scene" advice can be in dealing with federal and state regulatory authorities, providing immediate representation for key company witnesses, preservation of evidence and the early formulation of liability theories, including looking at other potentially responsible parties. October 2011 – Christopher Kozak conducted a presentation at a client's national claims conference entitled "Internet & Social Media: A Litigation Game Plan." The presentation described how a claims department can monitor, obtain and preserve internet and social media evidence for use in civil litigation. There also was information provided as to what is and is not permitted in terms of seeking this evidence, and how to gather it in such a way as to improve its chances of being admissible in Court. October 2011 – Steve Jacobs led a session on the doctrine of in pari delicto in the aftermath of the New York Court of Appeals’ seminal decision in Kirschner at CNA’s Accountants and Lawyers Defense Network conference in Orlando, Florida. Steve led a discussion at last year’s conference in anticipation of the Kirschner decision. August 2011 – An article by Sophia Ree and William Miller entitled “Risk and Professional Referrals” appeared in Practicing CPA magazine and on cpai.com. July 2011 – For the third time, Rebecca Embry presented employment discrimination education training for supervisors and managers of an LCBF client entitled “Preventing Harassment/Discrimination in the Workplace – Recognize; Prevent; Report.” The presentation trained supervisors and managers to understand their company's employee handbook, focusing on the company's policies and procedures regarding harassment and discrimination, including reporting, investigating and disciplining. The presentation provides discussions, powerpoints, video scenarios, and written materials of types of harassment and discrimination, with an overall view toward prevention in the workplace. June 2011 – Andrew Charkow presented a seminar on personal injury litigation defense strategies in light of the enactment of Section 111 of the Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP Extension Act of 2007 and its impact on the enforcement of the Medicare Secondary Payer Statute to Hudson Insurance Group in New York City. Andrew, who is a member of the Association of American Railroads Medicare Committee, has led similar seminars to several of LCBF’s clients and their local counsel. June 2010 – Jerry A. Cuomo chaired and Steve Jacobs was a presenter on a panel for a presentation on behalf of the New York State Bar Association entitled “2010 Insurance Coverage Update: Insurance Coverage Issues in the Commercial General Liability Policy – Emerging Issues for the Next Decade.” July 2009 – Melanie Suhrada presented recommendations regarding pre-lead abatement investigations and pre-litigation document development to general counsel at the New York City Housing Authority. |
