Landman Corsi Ballaine & Ford P.C. is a civil litigation firm. The Firm’s diverse client base enables it to engage in a varied, challenging civil practice involving a broad spectrum of disputes of local, national and international scope. Our litigation practice ranges from complex mass tort disaster cases and highly sophisticated commercial and insurance disputes to straightforward civil claims against both corporations and individuals. Our work embraces subjects as diverse as products and toxic tort liability defense, insurance coverage disputes, railroad litigation including Federal Employers’ Liability Act defense, commercial and consumer contract disputes, intellectual property and trademark litigation, labor and employment discrimination law claims, construction litigation, civil rights and constitutional law claims, environmental damage and remediation issues of concern to a wide variety of entities and individuals, including residential and commercial developers, defense of professional liability claims asserted against medical, accounting, legal, dental and insurance professionals and providers, nursing home and assisted living litigation, and general and premises liability defense. Trial: We enjoy a nationwide reputation as a law firm that tries cases. Since its inception in 1995, the Firm has tried hundreds of cases to verdict. Firm attorneys try dozens of cases to verdict annually in federal and state courts. Many trials are in the states of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, but we have also tried, or been retained to try, cases in, for example, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, Michigan, Minnesota and Nebraska. With increased frequency, our attorneys are retained at the eleventh hour to try difficult cases in jurisdictions around the country where the client faces the prospect of substantial exposure and to bring our judgment and substantial trial experience to other major law firms engaged in the defense of complex, high risk lawsuits. While the Firm is mindful of the expense of litigation and the need to assess and resolve cases as efficiently as possible, it is always prepared to try cases that need to be tried. Appellate Advocacy: The Firm’s substantial appellate practice is also national in scope. Firm attorneys not only handle post-trial motions and appeals involving cases tried by the Firm, but are often asked to assist or assume prime responsibility for representing the client’s interest in post-verdict and appellate proceedings in difficult or high-exposure cases tried by outside counsel. We have successfully argued appeals in the great majority of U.S. Courts of Appeals stretching from coast to coast and in the highest courts of numerous states and have demonstrated our ability to combine superior appellate briefs and outstanding oral advocacy across the country. Insurance Coverage: A vital aspect of our Firm’s growth and reputation stems from its sophisticated insurance coverage and reinsurance practice, which encompasses a wide variety of claims arising under primary, umbrella, excess, and catastrophic policies of CGL, D&O, E&O, public officials and employees, publishers, EIL, malpractice, railroad protective, and other types of liability and property insurance. Equally varied and sophisticated are the claims underlying these coverage disputes which involve allegations of financial fraud, discrimination, unfair competition, trademark and patent infringement, environmental pollution, construction accidents and defects, professional and products liability, and bad faith, among many other subjects. While our established reputation has caused clients to seek our services in handling coverage matters involving billion-dollar problems of national and international scope, like the World Trade Center disaster, we routinely handle less complex and far-reaching coverage matters. Alternative Dispute Resolution: The Firm has become increasingly involved in representing clients in non-judicial mediation, arbitration and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) proceedings that are now, with growing frequency, being embraced as an alternative means of efficiently resolving disputes. We participate in ADR proceedings that are national and international in scope. Internal Investigation and Consulting: In this era of corporate oversight and litigation, the Firm has been called upon to conduct internal reviews and investigations in order to help assess various practices and conduct in light of corporate "best practices," as well as civil and criminal legal standards. We also provide our clients with consulting services to enable them to assess and limit their exposure to vexing legal issues in such burgeoning areas as professional malpractice, toxic torts (including lead, mold and asbestos) and employment disputes. |
